My odometer reads all 8’s. I bought it this way so I’m not concerned with how it happened, I’m just looking to fix it if possible. I did a little research and the only helpful info I’ve found so far is that there is a guy on eBay who will fix it (and reset to whatever I want) for about $125.

Should I send it to him or is there an easier/cheaper way to fix it? Any thoughts would be very helpful.

Sounds to me like the LCD screen itself is malfunctioning in that case.

There is a lot of guys doing repairs for dash clusters on ebay. Check out their feedback. Make sure you get a good one.

Thanks guys. I’ll keep looking for a reputable source to fix it. It’s not a big deal since I’m not planning on selling it (ever) but it would be nice to know when the oil needs changed. :-)

What year is your Jeep? Earlier years you can swap around clusters with no issues.
Jeep is a 2003. So I guess my next question would be. If I replace the cluster what mileage will display? The new cluster or what was stored in the PCM?

Do not go 88 mph

Does your tip meter work like @DJM03TJ ? If so, just use that to know when to change your oil.

Also, have both of you tried removing, cleaning the connectors and reseating the instrument panel? It's free and simple so it may be worth the try. There are videos on YouTube on how to do this. Search for "Jeep TJ no bus"

No idea if this will fix the problem but like I said, it's free and simple to do

Not sure about the 03’s but I tested the cluster out of an 06 that I parted out in my 05 and it showed the mileage of the Jeep it came out of.
