Old alternator stopped charging on my 97 TJ sport. I grabbed one off a 99 wrangler (while grabbing water and power steering pumps). I grabbed the connectors too thinking I would just be able to splice on the "new" end and be ready to go. Looks like the old harness connection has the same green/orange and green wires, but also has the heavy gage wire I'm guessing is a ground? Can I do the splice and ignore the ground? I don't see another spot to connect it in the new alternator...

I think you should be fine. I went through this when I upgraded my 97’s alternator and the new one had the later body. Here’s a link to my build thread post where I dealt with it:
Continuing with the winch project. The winch and fairlead were mocked up on the bumper. This required drilling some holes in the top of the bumper to clearance the front 2 winch mounting bolt heads because I wanted the winch plate to sit farther back (possible with a non-raised winch plate because the stock sway bar is longer in the way).
It still hangs over slightly but I think it looks good and it fits well so it all came off and the winch plate, bumper and tow hooks all are out for powder coat.
Next, on to some electrical preparation. My alternator (I think)...

Great write up! I knew I couldn't be forging a new path, but couldn't find anyone who detailed it.
