Am I crazy for wanting TSL SX2s?

Any thoughts on the SSR? I'm thinking 35/10.5/15.
SSRs are decent, but they are heavy compared to other similar sized tires. Ran a set of 33x12.5s on my '97 4 cyl. Had a buddy, with a Ranger and some 33x12.5 Buckshot mudders, that wanted to try out the SSRs so we swapped. The difference in acceleration (which was pathetic with a 2.5 and 5 speed trans) was very noticeable. Not to mention picking up a couple MPG... Off road they worked great in the Northwest mud/rock/snow. Not quite as good at shedding thick sticky mud though...

Edit: the tires on my '04 in my avatar are 33x14.5r on 15x10 rims

I used to run the original bias ply TSL's on my FJ40. I loved those tires.
I ran 3 sets of SSR's on my 01 TJ. They are heavy, but they wore pretty good. I would get around 45k miles out of them.
I really like the tire, but the price killed me. I think at one point Interco wanted close to $400.00 per tire.

Something else that just sprang to the front of my mind. The SSRs used to run more true to size than the TSLs, not sure if they've changed that in the last 20 years or not.

I wish they did a 36x12.5x15 in the SSR. And yes Swamper's run true to size.
SSRs actually run larger than stated size TSL radials are slightly under.. (is what I was referring to)

SSR (only comes in radial)
SSR-16R33x12.5R153312.5661121/3262BSW91033.40"12.5668352225Yes
TSL Radial

Their 37x12.5R15 is only 36.8... We could pretend it's a 36? :ROFLMAO:

I know the SSR's ran truer to size/larger. I remember my last set was down to 5/32" and they were still bigger than the Cooper SST that I was replacing them with.
A lot of people complaint that Swamper's require a lot of weight to get them balanced. I never found this to be a problem. As a metter of fact, my SSR's took a lot less weight than my Cooper's or Mickey Thompson's.

My experience was the same. For as heavy as they were, on top of me running them on 8.5 wide wheels they didn't take much to balance.

Edit: I'd have no issues buying them again.

How did the Cooper SSTs do vs the Swampers?

@Eddie Greenlee What do you think of your SX2's and have you driven them on roads in snow and ice?
The tires do not ride bad on the road at all.
You can tell they are a little heavier.
I still have them on a separate set of wheels. I use them mostly off road because I don’t want to ruin them on asphalt. They are Very effective on mud of course and no problems in the wet or snow, they grind out in the rocks and crawl right throw them. I really don’t have anything negative to say about them except they are heavier because they are a bigger tire.

You were the best person I could think of who had them and might be able to offer some real world experiance. Have you driven with them on the road when it's snowed?

The Swamper's were much better. That being said the Cooper SST's were the original's and not the SST Pro.

Well kinda . Well it really doesn’t ever snow much here. 2 to 4” is a heavy snow for us lol. But we really enjoy it.
So yes I’ve been on roads in the snow with no problems.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'll go with TSLs!

Once you've had them for a while please let us know how you like them good or bad.

Wait... You're looking at another set of tires? Haven't you bought two already for this build? FINISH THE DAMN JEEP ALREADY!!

😂 😂

Damn,
Rough crowd... No this was when I was looking for the IRock's and they only had one blem.
But I'm always looking at that NEXT set of tires too. With the goal that the Jeep is going to be running and driving soon. (May-June) I hope.

Interco has been a longstanding choice for here in AK. There are some issues obviously with being an aggressive bias ply like for winter time but it is hard to beat the traction or how tough those tires are.

Mine only flat spotted for the first 5-10 miles in the winter. But we only get down to around 0-5* here.
