Arizona Rock Crawler

Ran into a little hiccup today. The dipstick and tube was by far the hardest part to get ahold of. It’s discontinued everywhere and at the time I found one on eBay. Turns out it’s the wrong one and they mislabeled it. Searched all morning and found one in New York. Until that gets here I will get everything else finished but kind of bummed because I thought I could finish today.
Can anything good come out of New York?

Funny how after all that hard work the most satisfying part is putting the shift bezel on and looking at your new auto shifter

What happened to your fancy TC shifter? Bummer in the dipstick tube, I have 3- 32RH transmissions and could have sent you one as well.

I’ve always had the stock TC shifter handle. Must be thinking of someone else. Shoot I should have posted up on here I appreciate that. I ended up paying $70 for the seemingly last dipstick on the internet. Having it shipped to Blaine to replace his.

While I’m waiting for the dipstick tube to finish the install I almost forgot I needed to check if my rear driveshaft would still be usable with the swap. Put the skid back on and measured and it is most certainly too short now. The 32rh is about 2” shorter than the ax15.
Sending out my rear driveshaft to Tom wood today to get lengthened as well as converted to greasable splines. I haven’t torn the boot on my rear shaft but the front boot gets torn up all the time so I’ve decided the XC style is better for my needs.

I have the greasable style rear without the boot. It is nice and easy to keep lubed.

Rear shaft gets here tomorrow! Which means Sunday is wheelin day again! It’s been way too long.

I drove the Jeep up to 50mph today with just the front shaft in and good lord is it slow now. The AX15 felt pretty zippy but with only 3 gears now she’s not too quick. The good news is I don’t care because it’s only used for wheeling and my 15 min work commute.

Spent the day today cycling the rear suspension and cutting the rear wheel well to fit my tires. I don’t know how anyone fits 35s without trimming the wheel well. The good news here is that with my old control arms I was losing 1.5” of downtravel during articulation. With the new Savvy arms I’m at full travel, yay! And this gives you an idea of how junky rough country arms are. I was only getting 2.5” of downtravel during articulation when the other side was at full stuff before the joints maxed out.

How do your Shift points feel?

You may need to tighten your Throttle valve cable a couple clicks at a time.

True. I’ll play with it some more once I get the rear shaft on. I didn’t love driving in in front where drive with a lunchbox locker haha
Makes sense, I wouldn't either. When you said it's not as quick I was just wondering how you adjusted your TV cable, and maybe your shift points were too early and soft making it seem slower.

With 4.56 and 35's your Jeep shouldn't be terribly slow. Obviously not a race machine either. Good work though! I have the XC splines on my Tom Woods also. Good stuff.

By slow I mean not as good of acceleration from 0-45 mph

I read back through this thread, and my only thought besides looks good, is I am jealous of your Amazon warehouse deal on the Spare Warn lock outs for 120$. I'm gonna watch for a set also. I buy the warehouse deal stuff sometimes and its a good deal.

I saw you are planning on running an Aux cooler for the trans, that will be a must IMO. Go into the radiator and then the cooler and back. I'm sure you knew that! But tossing it in here anyway.
