I have the 6.0 for my grinder, and for my intermittent usage, they work well. If I was using it professionally, a larger capacity battery would be a necessity.
For me it isn't the professional aspect, it is the "I paid a fair bit of money for this, I want every ounce of performance I can get out of it" aspect.
I have three HO 6.0's, I outran all of them yesterday and all were on chargers so I went in the house for a break I can see the need for a bigger battery.

I don't have any of the new ones. I have enough of the 5.0 for the flashlights and what not that I don't need to buy any. The smallest battery I will buy is the 8.0. I wind up with other smaller ones in some kits that are a good enough deal to buy, but I never willingly buy a smaller one on purpose. That and since I have a couple of the articulating M12 lights, I can really care a whole bunch less about M18 light batteries.
That's M12...so a whole nother line of batteries and tools!
The 5.0's are junk in comparison on the grinder.
The funny thing in my case is that at work with what I use my m18 recip saw for, it makes sense to use the smaller, lighter 5ah battery. One can last me a whole day of quick cuts. But on Jeep projects or at the junk yard cutting bigger stuff, the 12ah is much nicer. Same with the grinder. There is a difference in the battery power and duration.
I may have misspoke and I need to see if I do in fact have any working 6.0's.
Having not used the 8.0 battery, I can only guess, but typically, batteries will perform at the same output level independent of capacity. The capacity just means they will perform at that level, longer for higher capacity.
Ya'll do whatever blows your skirt up. I don't see the value and you can't change that. I equate it to the pukes that run the M12 Fuel drill motors. The only thing they are good for is drilling holes in thin shit. They are not fast, they don't have a lot of power, and if you need a drill, that ain't one. If I wasn't scared my help would be fatally traumatized, I have pondered many times yanking that piece of shit out of his hands and death slamming it onto the concrete so he CAN'T grab it. You're getting paid to drill a hole, not fuck with it.

Not really. Take the 3/8's that is working right at the edge of what it is capable of and the 5.0 does it no favors whatsoever.
