Automatic transmission pan question

Ok so i Tried to reseal my trans pan last weekend.... well needless to say... it didn’t work. Found that the rim of the pan was bent but thought i would try anyway. Well now I’m just going to buy a new pan. The question is, would it be better to get OEM from the dealer or aftermarket (crown.... or something along those lines)?

Ohhh not looking to get one with extra fluid or anything like that. He (my son) doesn’t do any hard off roading. Just a daily driver.

No telling what the gauge is of aftermarket pans so I'd stay with the OE Mopar. I just replaced mine last week with a Mopar from https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G0OUIPM/?tag=wranglerorg-20

Just be aware that if your current pan's magnet is donut shaped you'll need a different style magnet that is a solid round design to fit the latest Mopar pans. I found that out an hour before I was ready to install the new pan after finishing repairing my transmission. Fortunately my dealer had it in stock.

You can tell which you need by the shape of the magnet area on the bottom of the pan. If your existing pan has a round dome-shaped impression in the bottom, that uses the donut shaped magnet whose center hole fits around the dome-shaped impression. If it's a flat round depression, that takes the same smaller solid round magnet the pan in my above link requires.

OEM is always good if mechanical parts (rotates, moves, slips, vibrates). For a pan, I will buy anything cheap aftermarket. Operating (working oil) pressure for trans pan is not much and so nothing to worry. They are easy to seal with the gasket if you don't rush, bolt them staggered with a pattern, hand tight is what I did to mine, start really with even-gently-hand-grip-wrench old school style.

Also, apply a 1/8" bead of Mopar Automatic style sealant (like an RTV) to the rim of the transmission pan before seating it. https://www.morris4x4center.com/rtv-sealant-mopar-5010884aa-m.html

When I was able to put a hole in mine through a rust bubble I was lucky and the dealer up the block had one with the new magnet...I did not have time to wait for amazon so I think it cost me about $70

Any ideas on what it would cost to have someone do this. I know it’s a simple thing but for some reason i can’t get the damn thing to stop leaking. Talk about frustration

It will be a different story with a new pan, I would do it again yourself with a new pan an instructions Jerry said above.

It could be. It leaks about a quart Avery 2 weeks so who knows.

That’s a good sized leak. Clean the pan and tube where it’s inserted at the case with brake clean. Drive it and look for the leak. You could also add some dye.

Lol it’s a good thing i looked, i almost bought the one from the link you sent me. It’s NOT the same at the one that’s on the 99 with a 4.0 auto.

It'd only take the newer model magnet, a $5 part. Or I can retrieve the perfect condition pan I removed from the trash barrel & after cleaning it send it to you. I only replaced it so I could have mrblaine weld a temperature sender bung into a new pan so I'd have it ready when I dropped the old pan for my recent repair. Message me if you're interested.
