I have a 2001 TJ 4.0 automatic (California emissions). I have had idling issues since I bought it a little over a year ago. Since it has been doing it from day one I never thought twice about it. Last weekend I had someone riding with me ask if I had replaced my O2 sensors. When I went to locate them, I found out my Bank 2 Sensor 2 sensor was not even connected to anything. Since I live in Texas, obviously it was never an issue for the previous owner. All of the forums say that the connection sits on top of the transmission. I have examined all around the top, length and sides of the transmission and have not been able to find any loose wires. I have followed the other three sensors and found where they are connected but I cannot find anywhere it appears there is a missing connection. Can anyone please tell me where the other end is supposed to be connected. Since obviously there will be loose wires I should be able to tell immediately which ones they are. I have enclosed pictures just to be more specific.

This one is a pain. The connector is between the engine and the firewall. To see it, look from the top side of the engine while standing on the drivers side between the engine and the firewall. You can just get your hand in the space. It will help you connect it if someone pushes the O2 connector up from the bottom to you.

Thank you gentlemen! I truly appreciate it.
I guess I don’t deserve to own a TJ. I looked everywhere from the top, bottom and both sides. I cannot find a connection or wires anywhere back there. I even went to get my neighbor to do the same thing to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

I had the same issue as you , I found my connector laying on the passenger side of the bell housing of the transmission, hidden under the firewall behind a vent tube. I spent countless hours looking for this connector . It’s gray in colour
