Getting ready to make an order with Barnes for a front and rear bumper. I am already running the belly skid, and couldn't be happier with it. I would also like to use their gas tank skid, but I am confused on the need for a 1" body lift for proper installation. It seems that the earlier TJ models do not require the BL. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what changed between the earlier and later models that makes the difference. The TJ I am working with is a 97 4.0L. Any information would be appreciated.

Nothing changed. Barnes is confused. If the later TJs really need a body lift to install, then so do the early ones. Conversely, if the early TJs do not need a body lift, then neither do the late TJs.

There is a review on the Barnes site for this skid which states that he did not need a BL to install on a 99 TJ. When I called Barnes, I was told that they installed this on an 03 and it required the BL. Both state that they were installed with 19 gallon tanks. There are several aftermarket manufacturers of tank skids, including Kilby, that state a body lift is required for install only after 02. That is why I thought maybe something changed on the later models.
