Blower Motor Ground?

I have a 2005 RHD TJ. Fan would not blow at all, replaced the control module in the dash, fan switch connectors were fried! Then some fan speeds worked. Changed the Resister and all speeds worked, for about 15 minutes. Only the highest speed works, but it goes off randomly. It will run for 15 to 30 seconds then randomly come back on. I'm assuming the blower motor needs to be replaced and it blew the new resister. Disconnected the resister so it will only work on the highest speed now. I have a new blower motor and resister, but a friend mentioned it could be a ground instead. What should I check before digging down to the blower motor? Or, should I just replace the motor and resister?

Factory Service Manuals in the resources section - 8w have a list of all the grounds. Most of them are under both speaker covers, the kick panels. Then there's the big one on the firewall to the battery.

I'd power the motor up with 12v and see what happens.

When you look at the wiring diagram you'll see that whenever the key is turned on, the blower motor relay closes and energizes the positive side of the blower motor through the 40 amp circuit from the PDC. So the blower motor should always have battery positive with the key on even if the HVAC is off. What completes the circuit is the ground. A heavy ground wire originates in the footwell area and is connected to the mode switch. When you select a mode it sends the ground through the fat green wire coming out of the mode switch and into the fan speed switch. The fan speed switch sends the ground through the different resistor taps then on to the motor.

I don't know if you are aware, but the RHD blower is mounted behind the battery. In later LHD models the fan motor is accessed under the dash. In RHD models the HVAC unit remained a mirror image of the early model HVAC units.

I'm on my mobile so can't offer any more info regards the wiring as I don't have access to the 05 wiring diagrams.

Haven't had a chance to work on it again, the jeep is working six days a week only leaving me Sunday to mess with it and without a garage I can't always work outside! I do have the proper LHD motor that goes behind the battery/computer. LHD 2005's are different, pop 'em out from behind the glove box, much easier than a RHD. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Hopefully I can get this straightened out soon!

When I mentioned that the HVAC system in RHD models is a mirror image of the early LHD models, that also includes the blower motor. It is an exact mirror of the early LHD blower motor right down the the shape of the fan vanes and the direction of rotation. An early LHD blower motor will not fit.

Rockauto currently have the RHD blower motor in stock.

Edit: do a search for rockauto 5% and you'll find a valid code quite easily that will give you a small saving.

Here's a pic I made previously that shows the motor being a mirror image.

The blower motor in 05 should get switched 12V from the blower motor relay.
The ground circuit is provided via the blower motor resistor and the speed switch. The relay is the ususla suspect if the fan only runs on high speed, but if the resistor is unplugged nd you are still getting intermittent fan then the issue could be on the positive or negative side of the circuit.

Since you say the fan speed connectors were fried it may be worth looking there. I'm not sure if there's a replacement connector available for the fan speed switch. You may be able to cut off the connector if it looks bad and crimp some terminals onto the wires that could plug straight on to the fan speed switch terminals.

Power from the fan comes from fuse 1 under the hood. I'm not sure how likely it is for a bad connection at the blower motor connector, but it may be possible to try and tweak the connector terminals slightly for a tighter fit on the fan connectors.
