Blown radiator, maybe new engine?

97 wrangler 4.0.
I was driving down highway all and with food on gas I could tell jeep started to slow down. So I got off to the side and wouldn't no start. Realized alot of coolent on top the engine but never seen gauge get hot. Called for a tow wait about 15mins, jeep starts right up. I get to a gas station within 1/2 mile. And let it idle for few minutes no leaks not getting hot. Jeeps get towed home. I find 6in crack across the top of radiator. I change it out. With in radiator in I let it run for a while to "burp" out the air. But it doesn't seem to keep cool. I take it for a ride and press on gas I could feel loss of power. And at idle I can see and hear a bumping noise every 5ish seconds.

Maybe engine swap in my future? It's one of the few things I haven't replaced on this TJ 215k miles

Check your thermostat as well. It could be stuck.

Also, check the water pump impeller.
With the rad cap off, let the engine warm up to operating temp. Do you see water flowing in the radiator neck? No? Is it up to proper temp? Yes? Stuck T-stat or bad water pump.

Could be an engine issue if it overheated badly. Oil in the water? Water in the oil?

No. They all crack there when the plastic gets old.

Should not have, but who's to say the crack didn't come first?
In any case, New radiator and still a lack of cooling. I would look for water flow in the rad neck and go from there.

When a cooling system overheats it can cause worn/weak components to fail. If your thermostat is stuck causing a heating issue one of your radiator hoses will be very hot while the other is a lot cooler. Does the engine run ok until it gets hot, or does it run bad even when cool now?
