Broken u-joint (standard Dana 44 axle shaft or chromoly?)

Hi, Had a great weekend at Windrock park Tennessee, Til....I somehow managed to break my Dana 44 front rightside axle shafT at the U joint. Game over. Now I need advice. If I upgrade to chrome moly shaft do I have to change the Right AND left side? Do both halves Of U joint on one side Have to be Chrome moly? Ie: axle shaft side and hub side of U joint? Any advice would be appreciated.

They don't all have to be the same material. There's no reason you can't replace just one of the 4 parts with cromoly.

You can catch some deals on shafts from Amazon. I got a set of Ten Factory front axles with Spicer joints for under $400. Get a browser add on like Honey or Camel for a price drop alert.

You don’t have to replace both, but you may as well since the shafts aren’t typically sold separately. I went through this last month and got Revolution axle shafts for just over $500 (almost half off thanks to amazon’s pricing system).

My passenger side stubby’s ears where destroyed. However I made a trail spare set with my driver side stubby and both inner shafts (though I’m pretty confident in the new revolution setup.
