CAD software?

For sheet metal we're using AP100US. The machine shop is using Gibbs. I don't program for them, though I will create a solid model for them if the customer doesn't supply one.

Our outfit didn't do any sheetmetal whatsoever - other than the very occasional shear and brake work that even I can do. I was in charge of computer procurement for the M.E.s and the machine shop. We had 2 levels of Solidworks users: The "Light" ones who needed to design parts, and the "heavy" ones who needed to load an entire product into the thing - and then rotate it. "Light" users could get by with a $5K-ish computer, the "Heavy" users were pushing $20K as I recall. And we replaced them every 3 years. I forget what we paid per seat of Solidworks - somebody else took care of that but it wasn't cheap. But what a fantastic program! Wasn't some smartphone crap that's for sure. They'd do a complete stress analysis on the entire product before ever cutting metal. I was always a bit surprised that Solidworks was a windows program, I would have expected Linux or Unix, but whatever - its fantastic.

If you can boot Windows on the Mac, you should be able to use the same software you were using before.

Do they still call it Boot Camp (their proprietary VM solution)? I don't follow Mac stuff, only Windows and Linux.

I use Virtualbox on Windows and Linux, which is free. They have an OSX version. Install that, install Windows in a VM. I use it to run Windows on Linux and Linux on Windows.

I think Bootcamp just lets you run windows on Apple Intel hardware and it's not virtual at all, just boots Windows. VM whatever works after you boot MacOS.

AUTODESK AUTOCAD V2022-MAGNiTUDE​

1. Install the software

2. Install Network License Manager, change "this_host" in LICENSE.DAT to
your host name

a. Setup & start license server with LICENSE.DAT as license file
b. Start LMTOOLS Utility / lmtools.exe
c. Select [Config Services] Tab

d. Check the Box for Start Server at Power Up
e. Check the Box for Use Services
f. Browse for the Path to the lmgrd.exe file
g. Browse for Path to the license file
make sure you change the file type from License files(*.lic) to License files(*.dat)
h. Hit Save Service
i. Select [Start/Stop/Reread] Tab

j. Select the Flexlm Service 1 Service then hit Start Server button
k. Select [Server Status] Tab

l. Hit Perform Status Enquiry button to verify you've setup the service correctly

3. Overwrite the ADLMINT.DLL file provided to the following folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\AdskLicensingAgent\

4. Run the software and choose:

License type: Use a network license
License server model: Single License Server
Name of the server: 27080@your_host_name <- Change This to match your hostname
