I'm looking into get a cage installed. I called Genright for an estimate. For all the options below, it would run $5300 in parts.

Aluminum roof - Not sure if I want to do this. Might do this and just get a wind jammer to use instead of a back window. Then I'd run the half door uppers and no top. I will still run the OEM top in the winter. I should check how much this weighs though.

Other options included:
Harness bar kit
X Bar behind the seat
Dash V bar
C-Pillar bar - Said they can make this removable if I need to remove it for storage.

If you've had this cage or another installed, let me know what you ended up paying in labor.

I'd expect @mrblaine can advise you on all this if not install it too.

Said he doesn't install them. I'll call him for his input though.

I talked to another person (Mark D) that had this cage installed and recommended just having Genright do it. They said it's an 18 month wait to have one installed, so that's out. Plus GR said they charge about double what anyone else would charge.

Given how many of the GR "cages" that are completely fucked up after some fab shop gets done with them, I'd let GR do it and the pitch the mother of all hissy fits if it isn't done perfectly. That way they get to fix their own mistakes caused by poor hole and tab locations on the tubes that put the dash bar out of parallel with the dash by over 3/8". You also get to tell them the dash bar has to come out to work on the dash since it traps the defrost trim panel and if it doesn't come out, neither does the rest of the dash.

Heater core, HVAC controls, head unit, or any thing you have that needs the dash center to be removed to work in that area no longer happens unless the cage comes out if they trap the defrost vent with the dash bar.

The rear bars along the top of the tub need to be parallel horizontally to the top of the tub rail and then parallel to the side of the tub when viewed looking straight down.

If you plan to run a door surround for your factory top, get ready to enjoy the butchery that is their adapter kit. I took one look at it, tossed it in the trash and built my own. Even the trash can was offended by that crap.

What amazes me the most is some of the most picky individuals I know who go over everything I do with a fine tooth comb actually paid for all of those issues above on one rig and never even batted a single eyelash over the shit work. I've got one here if you want to swing by and look at what you don't want.

That's too bad, I'd totally trust his installation and especially his welding for that job.

It isn't a cage. I don't do cages and I don't do wannabe cages. The conversation is always the same. It isn't a cage, yeah, I know, but something is better than nothing. That's true but you don't have nothing now. I want something to keep the kids safe or momma won't let me take them out with me. That's awesome, can you predict the future? No, why? If you can't, then you need something that will protect you in all manners of mayhem. Just put something in so I can take the kids. Sorry, I like your kids, I'm not going to do that to them.

Then we have to have the whole discussion about once you get that, then you need to wear a helmet and a 5 point harness to keep the cage from killing you in a violent roll. No one listens and I'm not going to be a party to that nonsense.
