No. I’m just in the concept phase. I am just now trying to find a good intellectual property lawyer. I don’t think I have much interest in being a part of the manufacturing or business end of it. Kind of just want to sell the idea to someone who can produce it... I really just want one and maybe a little royalty $$ (if that’s a thing)

Even a bad IP lawyer may cost you more than the profit the article can generate.

You can do some patent searching on your own... You won't see pending items, but all issued patents are loaded to the internet. It's a bit cumbersome, but it does allow you to look and see if you even have something "state of the art." That will also get you an idea of where the white space is on the idea. Most of the time, you are patenting particular features of a product vs the product as a whole. For instance. ..you would not be issued a patent for a swing away tire carrier on the bumper. However, if you come up with a new pivot or latch, your patent can protect those features. So. ..swing away tire carries will still be made by everyone, but only yours can incorporate your feature. Having that in mind will help you if you do decide to lawyer up. He'll have to spend less time on research. ..so less $$$.
