I like that notion. Just the fact that no one seems to build anything with a 283 anymore is reason enough to do it. I've many times built a street rod in my head with that engine in it...;)

My uncle built a 65 el camino with a high winding 283 in it.that rig had plenty of go.

He was one of the only guys i knew who could shift his muncie without a pause in the black stripes. But then again he was one of the only guys i knew who blew multiple muncie cases apart 😂

Let me guess , the counter shaft would blow through the bottom of the case . Don't ask how I know ....:)

Well , you can say one for sure , a D6600 has 60 max h.p. out of 623 c.i.d and weighs 3260 lbs.
So, in comparison a Jimmy 351 V - 6 is a freakin Formula 1 engine !!!!

So there ya go, grab that 351!! ;)

The D6600 is also hella tall, what with an 8 inch stroke - might even come up above the roofline! Wouldn't THAT be a sight?

Don't tell anyone that, 307 has a bad rep. Actually, I've recently had a guy tell me he likes 307 because people will give them to you, but with a little know-how they're just as good as any other SBC. I think he just built a high compression one for amateur asphalt circle track.

I've always heard nothing but negatives about both the 307 and the 305. As I've never been a follower of that branch of GM, I only "know" what the Bowtie Boys have told me.
