My brother-in-law is a union plumber. Because of that he knows a lot of people in the trade industry.
With the purchase of our new house, one of the things we knew was mandatory before moving in was central AC.
I got numerous quotes from Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. All of them wanted around $4000-$5000.
Well, my brother-in-law hooked me up with a guy he knows who does HVAC for a living (for another company). He's certified and everything, but he's trying to pay off a ton of bills, so lately he's been doing some under the table work.
Anyways, got him to install a Rheem 3 Ton central AC unit in our new place for $2300 for everything (including parts and labor)!
He gave me his cost on the AC unit itself, and the labor I just paid him for in cash.
Anyways, I'm super psyched at how much money we ended up saving, and what a professional job he did on installing it. Sometimes it really does pay to know someone!
