My brother-in-law is a union plumber. Because of that he knows a lot of people in the trade industry.

With the purchase of our new house, one of the things we knew was mandatory before moving in was central AC.

I got numerous quotes from Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. All of them wanted around $4000-$5000.

Well, my brother-in-law hooked me up with a guy he knows who does HVAC for a living (for another company). He's certified and everything, but he's trying to pay off a ton of bills, so lately he's been doing some under the table work.

Anyways, got him to install a Rheem 3 Ton central AC unit in our new place for $2300 for everything (including parts and labor)!

He gave me his cost on the AC unit itself, and the labor I just paid him for in cash.

Anyways, I'm super psyched at how much money we ended up saving, and what a professional job he did on installing it. Sometimes it really does pay to know someone!

Any time people can make deals without the Gubbment dipping their slimy hands in, I'm all for it. :D Hell of a deal Chris.

Agreed! I am the same way myself. I always do under the table work when the opportunity presents itself!

Yep, can't live without AC in the Summer here, it's miserable (though not as miserably as the East Cost I imagine)!

It's one of the reasons we are looking to move to your southern coast, the summers here can be unbearable and I hate having to hibernate in the AC all summer.

I hear ya! I've been to the east coast during the summer and it is miserable indeed!
