Changed out my radiator and now it gets hot right away

I took it for 3 more test drives, and it settled down to 195 DEGs. Maybe it was air airlock.
The TJ is a quirky little beast with regard to the thermostat. If you use a fill funnel, you can watch what happens when the thermostat opens on most of them. It it will be fine, thermostat opens, then it will puke out a couple of quarts of coolant from a big air bubble. If you drill a 1/8" hole in the flange and put that on top, all that nonsense goes away. You can watch the thermostat open by monitoring the coolant in the fill funnel which is static before it opens, then it will drop some when it opens and you can see movement in the coolant that tells you it is circulating. Simple, easy, very effective.

Burping the system-
Point the nose uphill, fairly steep, remove the radiator cap, start it up and let it warm up. Let it burp.

That kit was worth every penny. My fill went quick, no mess and no air. Let it burp right into the funnel just like Blaine said.
Before they started using the jiggler bleeder instead of the ball in tube style, we had no issues. Then the later one came along and even with the funnel, if it was full, the air bubble would blow it all out when the thermostat opened. That's when we started drilling the flange along with using the funnel.

Yes,when I installed my tupy head last summer I hadn’t bought one yet and filled the radiator full and walked to the work bench for a minute, when I turned around the radiator was dry ,it was really tough to get the gallon up and fill it back up in time, some steam came out ,I was not happy.better off use this thing and have extra on hand.learned my lesson.plus use the yellow stopper and put over the gallon jug for easy return of the extra coolant.

The bad part is after the bubble emptied the funnel when the thermostat opened, if you left it running and just added coolant, the cold coolant closed the thermostat and then when it opened, it would just empty the funnel again. Complete nonsense.

I used a Robert Shaw which has a bleed hole, although not apparent without close examination.

My mopar had the caged jiggle ball, haven’t had a problem.

Fill it with a vacuum tool and get it 100% full every time without issue. After owning the vacuum fill tool, I’ll never go back. No more headaches….no more nonsense

I've used them, the don't suck as much or much at all if they ingest any liquid. Now I just use the fill funnel and drilled flange.
