Changing diff fluid, transfer case fluid, and transmission fluid

Hey guys and gals. Purchased my 99 TJ a few months ago. It was owned by an older lady, then here grandson had it for about 12K miles. Jeep only has 90k miles on it and I am going to change all fluids listed in the title. The jeep has the trac lok differential rear axle. Do I need to add an additive for this diff? Also any recommendations on oil brands, Im in Ga so more heat than cold. Dana 30 and 35, and it is a 5 speed with the 4.0 engine.

Any major brand of GL-5 gear lube like Valvoline, Castrol, Torco, Pennzoil, etc. will be fine. The exact viscosity is not critical, 75W-90, 70W-80, 85W-120 etc. will be fine. Most gear lubes already contain the friction modifier required by your limited slip differential requires. You can verify its presence on the gear lube container's back label that will say something like 'Compatible with limited slip differentials' if it's present.

Redline MT-90 would be a great choice for your AX-15 5-speed transmission, any type of ATF like ATF+4 for the transfer case.

Let me add to Jerrys wisdom. Dont use use off the shelf GL5 gear oil in your transmission. Either get the Redline Jerry mentioned, or order from the likes of Summit racing or Jegs actual GL4 trans oil.

What is the next best alternative to Red Line MT-90? I have some time this weekend to change all my fluids and the MT-90 is not available locally. I can order it but I won’t get it in time to fit my “open window”. Is there something almost as good or should I wait until I can get the “good stuff”? Thanks.

Your NV3550 requires a little different version of Redline called MTL which is a GL-4 75W-80. If you can find a synthetic GL-5 75W-80 that says (and this is important) "Safe for yellow metals" on its back label it'll be fine.

Thanks Jerry. I will start filling up the cart. Also, any recommendations on what gaskets to use. I was looking at the Lube Locker that do not require the RVT, just a cleaner install and easier next time around as no RVT to remove.

Lube Locker gaskets would be a good choice. If your differential covers are currently sealed with RTV make sure you get ALL of the old RTV off. Use a fine wire brush on the seating surfaces to insure they're pristine clean.

Ok, so i have the Amazon cart filled up and ready to order. LMK if this looks right to you and a good choice for a TJ in Ga that will only see limited off road. 5 speed with Dana 30 and 35 with trac lock rear diff. The gear oil does say for limited slip. I do have the Dana 30 gasket also, just couldnt fit it all in the pic.
