Clueless with wheel sizes and backspacing

I'm looking at new wheels (back in my day we called them rims) and tires for my 2004 Jeep Wrangler SE. When I bought the Jeep it already had spacers with 16 inch wheels with P225/75/R16 tires. I like the looks of the Tactik D window wheels but they are asking if I want 15x8, 15x10, 4.0in backspace etc. What should I get for wheel and tire sizes that the four banger can handle?
 
You don't want anything bigger than a 31x10.5x15", and maybe even a 30x9.5x15 with a stock geared 4 banger. You would want a 15x8 and 4" of back spacing sounds about right.
 
15x8 is ideal for most sizes, and is a better choice than a 16" diameter wheel is since 16" tires are more expensive and there's not as much of a selection of them.

4" of backspacing is fine, and you of course want them with the 5x4.5" bolt pattern.
 
Going by your avatar , you seem too young to drive . The Cab Car forum may be worth looking into.

Andy I look young for my age, (Photo of my Grandson of course). This is my second Jeep, my first Jeep was a 2001 that could no longer be welded (I guess you need something to weld to), the guy who welded my Jeep in the past told me my best bet was to lift the gas cap and drive another Jeep under it so I did.

I have a couple of Corvettes so I also go to that forum too, don't tell them but I have more fun riding around in my Jeep.
 
How much money are you looking to spend on rims and tires (ya I'm old too.)? A cheap alternative is alot of guys sell their new tires and rims off of JK's that fit our TJ's with spacers. They run around $300 for all five rims and tires. Just the JK moab rims can be had for less than $200. But then you need to buy a 17" tire. Might not be your thing. But the rims and tires on my avatar Jeep pic to the left are the $300 JK's with spacers. I'm in the process of putting off road tires on now. You'll see alot of Jeeps with these rims. And many came off JK's for cheap. Just an alternative. Might save you some cash you can spend elsewhere. Spacer size should be about 1.25 or 1.5 to avoid rubbing.

The choices are limited, but a 7" wide wheel is plenty for a 30x9.5 or 31x10.5. I ran 31x10.5's on my old Grand Wagoneer for years on the stock 15x7's.

The problem with JK wheels and tires are they are usually on the taller side for a stock 4 banger TJ.
 
I ordered 5 Tactik D wheels 15x8 with 4 inch backspace with the free lug nuts for $250. Now trying to figure out what tires to buy.

Just make sure you buy tires that are C rated, or D rated at the very most. E rated tires have no place on a vehicle as light as a TJ, unless you don't plan to drive it on-road at all. Or if perhaps you like your fillings rattled out.
 
Mr. Bills it can't be as bad as someone asking on the corvette forum what type / brand of oil and filter to use, and how many days between oil changes.

Just got my set of five 15x8 rims with 4in backspace with 4.5 bolt pattern, they came with center caps, and lug nuts.

Wanted to pose a question about backspacing here instead of starting a whole new thread.

Do you guys think 4.79" backspacing is too much?

Maybe. Your limiter will be contact with the lower control arms and front sway bar at full lock. I'd guess you'd be pretty safe with any BS less than 4.50".
