Here's my recent addition for storage. I use old 2x2 pieces to add strength and tie it together without adding as much weight.
I don't over load it either. Screwed into wall studs and the short section up front is tied into the longer section running the entire length against the back wall. The open corner gets picked up by 2 walls. The right side is held up by a floor to ceiling support.
If it ever sags, I'll hook it up to the ceiling joists. I rebuilt the attic above for storage space so there are 2x6's on 12 in centers above it.
I built a 3’x5’ workbench that gave me the confidence to finish my basement and build a bar height table. I left a 13’x16’ area unfinished that acts as my workspace/storage space. It’s a mess right now and I really need to dedicate a weekend to make it nice and organized and set it up like a lot of you guys have done. Half my tools are in the basement and half in my garage which kinda sucks though.

My garage is 10x27. Its been hell trying to get it into a workable area. While I can do projects in there, any jeep work is severely limited. I built an L-shaped work bench out of 2x4 and face mount joist hangers and white melamine for a surface. Home depot overhead shelving (which limits my lighting over the bench. My plan is to still build high 2' shelves along either wall to get more up off the floor. Looking back, I wish I would have bought a 72" tool box and built my bench around that, and not installed the peg board. Also plan on painting the walls white to brighten the area.
