Daily Driver, Go Where I Want To Build

Finally after who knows how long, I finished the KC Cyclone under hood lights!

Both the plunger switch and the master override work as intended.

And the patch I made for the hood louver covers finally fell out. So, I get to fix that now.

This has been a clever project to watch! Like your approach and the flexibility of the idea/final product.

I'm looking for a switch option for my underhood light as I regularly keep the hood up in the garage while working on projects for days/weeks/(months...). I was looking at something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CMX55T1G/?tag=wranglerorg-20

But I may steal your button install as you can easily heatshrink the connectors and it's up and out of direct 'splash' water. Appreciate the share!

It's been so long since I decided on the switching that I had to remind myself why there is both a hood controlled plunger switch and a manual toggle switch.

The idea is that I am supposed to use the manual toggle when I want light. But if I forget to turn off the lights before closing the hood, they will eventually kill the battery. The plunger switch is there in case I forget to turn off the lights before I leave.

I got a spare SPod switch and a couple led cubes laying around. I like this idea. Did the windstar filter housing for cowl air intake and it really helped get cooler air into the supercharger. Nice idea.

...

Blaine had a neat thought about using a time delay relay for the under hood lights. Once I find a momentary push button switch that fits where I put the rocker switch in the hood, I will make the change.

I have to believe it is doing something beneficial, along with increasing the size of the pipe from the cowl into the canister. My only mild regret is that I couldn't easily reconfigure mine to pull from the headlight which would get rid is the S shaped saxophone pathway. But I also have no idea if it matters.

Well, "Cowl Intake" sounds much cooler than "Headlight Intake," so there is that...

What follows of the latest chapter of my stupid muffler journey.

Way back in time when the Savvy midarm went in, I struggled to find a muffler that would fit with the new rear control arms. For a while, I had a Thrush Hush stuffed next to the transfer case.

This is a nice quiet muffler and I miss it. The problem is that I could never stop it from rattling.

Sometime later, I emptied out the Walker third cat I installed as part of the previous attempt. To make a muffler, I stuffed it with stainless steel scrubby pads contained in a small stainless basket.

This worked very well for a few years until the recently added supercharger blew it all out the tailpipe. This was the moment I re-aquainted myself with how awful and annoying a straight pipe sounds.

I needed a quick fix. For the moment, this will be the biggest glass pack resonator I dared squeeze in there.

The resonator is bareble. But it is loud enough that I still can't hear the supercharger like before. I wanted to find out if I can reduce the sound some more.

Are you still looking for other muffler options?

The new resonator is a straight pass through.

I bought a piece of galvanized duct and cut it into this impossible shape.

Added some bends to dampen and hopefully swirl some more air into the glass pack shell.

This goes into the resonator.

There is a very noticeable decrease in sound after the baffles went in. This exhaust is not as quiet as the scrubby pads. But I can hear the supercharger again. And the overall growl and raspiness of the engine is much better for a long term compared to the pass through.

If this rear stretch ever happens, it will include a real muffler and a much better reworking of the pipe. Until then, I have not found any good solution to fitting a muffler that will make the engine noise quiet again.

For future reference, this is what I run. It does a very good job quieting down the big Hemi, and I’ve always been very happy with the tone (you can hear it for yourself in a few weeks 🙂).

This is the 18” version, which fits nicely with my wheelbase, but it also comes in a shorter, 12” version.

I’m in the same boat after the mid arm, I love everything but my exhaust. Sounds okay at idle, but in the upper rpm’s it’s annoying and on deceleration it pops.

I forget what muffler I went with, it fits great but that’s all it does, I did dump it after the skid for now. It’s on my things to revisit.
