Dana 30 Breather and Locker Question

I noticed that my ARB locker compressor is puking oil out of the breather filter. Is this normal? I disconnected the airline and blew out the oil. My compressor, without the airline attached will run for about 2.6 seconds and then shut off. It will stay shut off for 45 seconds and then will run for 2.6 seconds. Is this normal or is there something wrong. It seems that it should run until I shut off the power to it.
In another issue along the same lines. I was checking to see if my Dana 30 breather line was clear. I pulled on the line and the hose fitting came out of the differential. I pushed it back in, but it seems loose. Tere isn't any threads in the differential hole that holds the breather fitting. Is that normal?

The breather fitting is press-fit. I suspect the ARB pumping gear lube up the breather is probably from the installer not having performed a small required modification to the axle housing meant to prevent that issue.

How long have you had the ARB?
Sounds like you had someone else install it?

It was installed last April.

I am going to pull the diff cover to see if the drain slots were cut in, tomorrow. If I find they are not there, is there a certain depth that I need to go to?

Good question.
If you have the diff open, you may end up tapping the hole and using a threaded fitting.
Maybe there are over-sized press-in fittings.
Maybe you can clean it up really well and use a tad amount of epoxy.

Personally, I'd go for the sure thing and thread the hole.

The white nipple may just be worn out or cracked. I bet you could buy one at any auto parts store. IIRC it took quite a bit of effort to put mine back in. Its just a press fit, no threads.

I was surprised to se that the breather tube was made of plastic. It seams like it should be made of metal. I need to open the diff to check to see if it has drain slot cut in. I may just tap it and be done with it.

Just be cautious about metal debris.
Cover the internals, use a vacuum while drilling and tapping, clean it out well.

I pulled my locker out and there are not any drainage holes. I guess I will cut them in. I would like to know what the orange seal is around the axle seal? is that something the factory put in? is it needed? I have looked at other pictures of this area and watched videos and I don't see this seal.

Its the seal when the axle tubes are pressed in.
