My buddy pulled the diff cover off of the Dana 35 in his 05, and found some chunks of teeth missing.

He was wondering what carrier this is though, and since I know nothing an the 35, I figured I'd ask you guys.

That's a new one on me, I've never seen a factory Dana 35 that looked like that or had a split-ring holding its cross shaft in.

I didn't think it looked normal, but I've never personally seen inside a Dana 35 before.

This how the factory Dana 35 carriers look... the one on the left is an open Dana 35, the Dana 35 on the right has a Tracloc LSD.

I wonder if the one in your photo could be a Detroit Truetrac LSD, it reminds me of one. It's been 15 years since I had mine so I don't recall if it had that split-ring keeper or not.

Looks like a Truetrac. I had one self destruct on 35,s with 4.88 gears in my Dana35 in 99% street driving. Never understood how that broke, and not a stock axle shaft.

35's?? Anything can and will break. You probably did some damage on that 1% off road and it finally popped, just happened to be on the street. The ones I saw broken were almost exclusively related to the worm gears disintegrating.
