Does anyone have tips for increasing gas mileage?

As for improving mileage, throw it in neutral and kill the engine going downhill! Now what with the power brakes, you'll have a hard time stopping, but your mileage will increase!

Same here. I usually shift around 2.5 with a light foot, 3 if I'm in a hurry, 3.5 if I'm in a panic. Give or take, I usually go by engine sound.
Thats funny. I hadn't really thought about it but yep...thats pretty close to exactly what I do.
If I'm just taking my good old time...
1st gear to 2nd is usually around 2500-2800
2nd to 3rd, 4th, 2200

4th to 5th probably closer to 2800-3000

The reason on that last gear rpm increase is the hills around here.
I've subconsciously trained myself to get the rpms up before hitting 5th...as to make it easier on machine not lugging engine in 5th once there. If that makes sense.

If I'm late for something I probably shift around 3200 in all gears

No, not really

15.6 mpg for me on 35s :)

I have torque pro added to my samsung and have it on when I travel. Seeing your instant mpgs and your throttle input has been a big help for me I think. I can adjust my right foot when glancing at the screen.

Me watching people making rocket science out of shifting

One question worth asking - what's the goal here? Reduced running cost or increased range per tank?

If it's the latter, there's a nice range of fuel tanks by Genright - one of them getting you an extra 5 gallons over the stock tank, in the stock location.

And if you have an LJ with the longer tail and are willing to cut part of the frame, there's a MUCH bigger one.
