Does anyone run trail doors / half doors on the trail?

hey, man, I like it. I'm always up for preserving factory functionality. I'd have tried something like that when I had my trail doors except I was still switching to full doors for the winter. And since you're using Mercedes switches you're still keeping it OEM for the period! haha

Ya, I'll be going back to full doors seasonally but the new switches will still work. I don't see a downside. Remains to be seen which configuration of doors, bikini, hardtop I run most.

I run nothing but the factory half-doors at home and on the trail.

Half doors except for winter, full doors in the winter (although I hardly drive the Jeep in winter realistically). Half doors are the dream, elbow rest, can see out better, and best of all, they look cooler.

Although when I am camping and sleeping in the Jeep I run full doors. That sucks in another way tho

Our climate makes it a bit more reasonable to also have full doors. Though I will be testing that out once I paint my half doors and get them on. Hopefully before Moab....

Still wishy-washing about whether I can make TJ Fest. Would have to wing it for a BLM campspot or such. Would trailer the LJ, pitch my new Kodiak tent and camp the old fashioned way.
Bucket list thing for me.. and my bucket is leaking..

I've dirtbagged it around Moab pretty successfully. It's probably a little harder with a truck/trailer setup - but there's some good BLM land within a reasonable drive along with a bunch of first come sites along the Colorado River and up toward Potash.

Edit: There's also a less desirable area near the backway into Arches - it's pretty dusty but looked like a lot of space available if I was ever desperate for a place to sleep the night.

3 local TJ guys are going the week before the Fest, between events. Couldn't get them to jump in with ya'll.

Edit: Could go early I guess and shop a camp spot. Just not sure how well I'd do multiple days in a dry camp.
 
I pulled the fuse years ago, and have never missed it since. I also run the Bestop half doors when the wife insists. I prefer doorless. Street or trail.

Same, and mine turns on for like 30-45 seconds when the motor turns off. I've never wished for anything more.

One downside to pulling the fuse is that you also disable the chime when the headlights are on and the ignition is off. For most of us that's not a big deal. My wife, however, has a knack for leaving the headlights on when she shuts the Jeep off. She killed 2 batteries in about 3 years time, and informed me that "it was my fault for not replacing the fuse so that the chime would remind her to turn off the headlights." :oops:

Needless to say, I now have a couple of switches that override the OE door switches and LED headlights just in case she doesn't hear the chime.

My wife can't drive a manual, and doesn't really like the jeep anyway...

But if the switch is off the chime still does not work. I have left lights on also but is has not been a huge problem yet.
