Does it make sense to replace ECU on 01 5 speed?

2001, 4.0, 5 speed manual with 150k. Car/engine runs perfect. I'm wandering if it makes sense to replace the ECU. I realize 05 and 06 automatics have issues with it but 01 5 speed? They're about $650 at @Wranglerfix. If it's not something that can cause issues in the future I can put that money to good use for other upgrades/ upkeep.

They do not have many issues. There are three caps that I would recommend changing as they tend to leak on the board over the years.

Thanks Mark. Are you referring to change the three plugs that go into the ECU? and if so, are they available?

He's referring to capacitors leaking electrolytes. The images shown are taken from this thread showing what happens to the capacitors in the TJ's ECU over time (this also happens to pretty much any capacitor over time, not just ones in our Jeeps). Note the black and discolored spots at the base of the capacitors legs and body.

Fun fact: If you own an original XBOX, your capacitors have likely done the same thing and are actively destroying your board beyond repair. Change them now or be forever longing to play Halo on it ever again.

Ahh! Thanks. I briefly looked at the thread you mentioned. I'll have to read it carefully when I get home. It seems to be something I can do myself. I'm pretty handy but should I be scared doing it myself, or you think I should send it to @Wranglerfix for repair?

Save the headache and send it to Mark. Hands down he has the most experience repairing these and will ensure it works the first time.

Soldering can get messy when you fuck it up if you haven't done it before. I'm IPC certified and I STILL occasionally fuck a board up beyond repair, but that's usually when I'm using a microscope. Get a lot of practice anyways.

Agreed. I'll contact Mark and get a quote. I'm pretty good with soldering and have good equipment and high end soldering station but I'd rather not take a chance. It'll be later this summer before I send it to Mark since my two sons and daughter in law are coming to visit, and then my son's in-laws after that, all from Texas. They're all looking forward to some offroading. I'm a jeepaholic and can't live without it

Thanks to Mark at @Wranglerfix and everyone else that responded to my thread here about 2001 ECU. I contacted Mark and got a quote and shipping instructions. Will be sending it in sometime in late July.
