Thx. Going to see it tomm. Zero rust on it per photos including frame. Finally va rust free frame. Only downside is its not the 4.0 so if those are 33 inch tires will have to see how sluggish it is. 90% of my driving will be local with occasional 4 hour Trip to beach twice a year so most of the time 4 cyl will be fine.
Drive it for a while before you settle on the 4 cylinder. I drove a 4 cylinder and I could never own one in a million years, it was so gutless it was unbelievable. Of course lots of people have them, so that is just my own opinion.
was thinking more about this. I had a 1991 and 1994 ford rangers that had 6 cyl but had similar HP as this jeep and I got around fine with those back in the day. I remember I had to downshift going up a hill but was able to maintain a decent speed on hills and higway was no problem. now my first truck was an 83 Ranger 4 banger that had I think under 100 hp and that was a dog to say the least.
now I realize the Jeep is a brick (not that the ranger was aerodymanic) but weighs a bit less than the ranger so should be similar in performance. will let you know how the test drive goes tomorrow.
That tends to happen with a nice / clean TJ. Oh well, the good thing is that there are plenty of them out there. Not like it's a 'rare' vehicle or anything.
This makes me giggle, because out here, they carry a $2k to $5k premium over KBB for some silly reason.
I was lucky, but while looking, it seemed that anything WORTH having was $10k or more. Anything with less than 100k miles was $12k and heaven forbid it said Rubicon on the hood (real ones...not the pretend ones)
OH, and LJ rubi's fetch $16k or more bone stock in this area...but most of the owners of those got smart and started advertising them on Utah and Cali craigslist and are selling for $25k plus shipping....I kid you not!
Oh I know what you mean first hand. Out here in Oregon a clean TJ Rubicon (rust free) goes for at least 17k all the way to 22k depending on a variety of factors. An LJ Rubicon will go for even more.
It's pretty ridiculous if you ask me, but then again, as an owner I guess it's a good thing!

I am finding that out lol. Getting tired of searching. 2 months of hours per day scouring the net, running around checking out rust buckets or junk.
I know, waiting sucks, but it seems the best things always come around when you stop looking.

Haha, yep, that's how it always works.
When I was much younger and used to date, I always found that the better ones came along when I wasn't looking.

I am finding a lot of jeeps that are automatics but have to have a stick. I already am willing to make some compromises such as considering a 4 cyl as I really do think it will suit me fine for my needs but gotta have a manual transmission, that and a/c for my dogs lol
I like my automatic, but I understand that some people prefer the manual. I just drive in traffic and couldn't deal with a manual in traffic.
AC would be a must though, I don't blame you!

An example of how powerful the 4 cyl is... I have to shift constantly driving from Phoenix to Flagstaff on I-17, three or four times all the way to third gear.... more time under the speed limit than above... I have 31s on my Jeep...
But don't misinterpret that as I'd trade it for anything other than a Hemi powered Wrangler...

This sounds just like my story. My search ended up being a 2 year ordeal of searching, drive hours for a rust bucket or bent frame. Everyone asking over blue book and sold before I get there or sold before I could reply. Two times I replied within 20 mins of the post going up and already sold. A couple of times they were sold just hours before I had scheduled to go look. A few times they sold for more than asking from people who replied after me and after I had already set up to come look. Just a friggin fiasco. I finally just went to a dealership. Not a used car lot, an actual Jeep dealer that also has a large used lot. This is where bluebook is your friend lol. Befriend a sales person and have them call you when they come in fresh from the auction and check out the back lot. They're ready to deal on a Jeep that hasn't been sitting on the lot. Quick in and out. definitely paid more than budgeted but got a decent deal, less miles than I anticipated (72k) much newer, and silver/black which I never seen for sale from private party. New top and tires to boot.
Patience I guess pays off. Best part is I still see similar TJs selling for the same price as mine meaning more than I owe! Lol
