jjvw...I'm pulling it apart and re-measuring today and your line of thinking is exactly where I went. This jeep is a decade long build, can't remember the original RE lift height but I want to say 4.5. The springs I ordered from MC are also for 4.5 lift. I sort of glossed over the comments here about "way too heavy" because the springs actually sit correct with the top five rings fully compressed as they are supposed to. The look of the springs is correct. The problem as I stated in my original post (I think everybody just reacted to the pictures) is the adjustment required to achieve a level ride height. That coupled with the way the larger diameter springs look up against the Acos with no bucket or frame member directly above the spring...especially when adjusted down this far. What's weird is that the front spring looks correct and did not require an adjustment, it slipped into place without a problem and bump stops/ pucks didn't need to be adjusted. I didn't measure the overall height of the original Rubicon Express REAR springs when I removed them or compare them to the new MC springs which I probably should have done.

I moved up to 37" tires this year. I also pull an Adventure trailer with this thing on occasion which is why I decided to try the MC dual rate springs. Pulling a trailer sometimes overwhelmed the linear rate springs in the past and the extra weight requires and adjustment for ride height so there's the reasoning behind the Acos adjustable in the rear. Any of you who have ever added tongue weight to a TJ with a lift know exactly what I'm saying. I also have no clue if the MC springs will be any better in this scenario.

As you can see by the picture, the jeep isn't any heavier than a lot of your rigs and the lift height may be a little tall but not excessive for 37" tires on a TJ. It's also not over adjusted...about an inch higher in the back in this photo without any gear loaded. I'll report back after I pull it part and do some measuring. At this point and to me...it seems that I'm gonna need a higher lift spring in the back. I'm gonna reach out to Metal Cloak about the bucket issue at the top and using this spring with an Acos setup. Metal Cloak also claims that their springs are set up to account for the extra weight of accessories commonly found on a Jeep which is another reason I chose them. I figured on some settling once they are installed but a lot of what I have read from other users is that they really don't settle much.

Considering that you have a bit more lift than this one with 7" of up travel on 40's, I'd say you were a bit overly tall.

MC is the master of social media marketing.
They are masters of understanding how to appeal to our inherent biases and poorly constructed belief systems and manipulating that into a purchase. They prey on the ignorant with catch phrases that make folks go "oh, that makes sense, take my money".

If they were as good at engineering products as they are at marketing, they would rule the offroad world.

I wish I could say I'm not sorta guilty of this...In addition to my desire to make this jeep capable, its a sales tool and never stops working. Everything including the name and profile pic on this post is used to help sell product. It lives in a showroom most of the time. I'll admit I made some poor decisions but matching or keeping the MC springs, the Acos and lot of the other stuff that weighs this thing down so much is kind of a necessary evil for part of the role this Jeep plays. I'll probably change these parts out in a year for whatever else becomes popular. I just ordered some custom low profile Pro-Tech toolboxes for the roof rack at a cost of $2k. I would never have done that except that I know somebody is gonna walk in the showroom and say "I gotta have those on my jeep". Hey..it helps pay the bills and I get to learn and have fun with it. Jeep accessories (and I have seen some real crap) is a billion dollar industry and I try to capitalize on it. It's kinda funny cause when we get our hands on well built and capable jeeps with high end off road parts they often don't get as much attention as the Jeeps that are loaded up with shitty accessories and power running boards....go figure.

"All show and no go".

That said, I also don't think people "that know" would likely care beyond a comment of how that's a poorly built rig. They'll do it all at home anyway and seek out the stock (or lightly modified rig) when they buy, without servicing it where they bought it.

I would bet there are more of "has no clue" clients than ones that care. Hell, just look at all the crap the JK/JL crowd buys. There's way more of them on the road.
 
Just installed MC dual rate springs to take the place of original Rubicon Express springs. I'm running JKS Acos adjustable bump stops front and rear. In both cases the circumference of the spring at its widest point exceeds the spring bucket or stop at the top of the adjustable Acos...(see pics).

I believe this all started because of how the top of the spring sits.
My triple rate Rock Krawler springs do the same thing. The top coil drops down into the second coil; and my Jeep is not heavy (and does not have Acos).

Sounds like Rock Krawler with their "triple rate" springs has been taking lessons on marketing from MC.

If I understand you correctly, I disagree. "Guys that know" often stop in to inspect and also sometimes criticize some of the stuff on the display pads..including my TJ propped up on plastic rocks (can't believe nobody here called me out on that one in the profile pic). I keep plenty of well built rigs around and for sale. They get criticized too cause everybody is an expert. But as you say, the market of "has no clue" (the ones that keep the shelves empty at 4 Wheel Parts) is the majority of buyers and would rather have a Rubicon on cheap wheels, a leveling kit and All Terrain TA's for more money than a rig that is more capable off road and less comfortable on road. Most of the guys like you guys are savvy buyers, don't mind fabricating, getting your hands dirty and usually don't want to pay good good money for a built rig...you would rather build it yourself even if it costs more...at least thats what we see. But most also can't resist the temptation no matter what the build to come in and educate us...totally fine and I have met some really cool people that way.

I have a built Cj right now. Bought it in an estate sale for pennies on the dollar. In it's day it was minimum $50,000 build ( I know the shop that built it) with tons of custom fab, 60's, coil overs, Atlas, NV4500, custom roll cage and more. It was tired when we bought it, but we plugged up some oil leaks, put some gas in it and took it across the Rubicon. It pretty much went wherever you pointed it, even with reduced horsepower and smoke pouring out the tailpipe. It's in my shop right now getting re-wired, motor rebuilt, new tires etc... to prepare it for sale. Even the worst critic with no love for CJ's would find things they like about this build. No doubt, after it's done and refreshed it will sit for months at $29,999 (half of what it cost to build it) while dozens of everyday jeeps with curb appeal as their only asset will sell for more money. Guys like me who don't have quite the knowledge that you guys do or have the know how or tools to build it will eventually come along and realize the value of this CJ and what's been done to it and buy it.

I bought them used, and only because they were a little taller than what I had. Although, I don't think I actually gained any height. :unsure:

You are correct, but the condition looks really funny with the Acos because the Acos mounts are super small and don't have a spring bucket at the top to theoretically support the grouping of coils if they were to compress beyond the top ring....make sense? ..so basically when you look down into the wheel well you can see into the center of the coils from the top.

You assume that is a problem. Have you looked at the axle side?

Have one of your shops fabricate a top for the spring that interfaces with the adjustable spring spacer. Heck, even the local high school kid could make a cover on their 3-D printer that would hide whatever you want.

Already done but might not even use it...when the spacer nut is adjusted back up to the top of the threads (near the frame) on the Acos it looks much better (I guess more normal). The whole thing started with the extreme adjustment required in the back to get the ride height level on springs with the same amount of lift. The top view of the springs in the back just added another aspect to it that I questioned. Probably wouldn't have even noticed it as much if the springs didn't collapse on each other at the top.

I get it. I have a 1/2" spacer above the spring, so no immediate support for the next coil. Agreed yours looks worse.
