Door limit strap

Wind caught my door and the strap popped the head of one hex screw on the door. So far I have ruined two drill bits, one “easy out” and another type screw extractor. It just will not budge. Is there some other type door limiter that does not use the original holes? Or some magical way to get the screw out?

Ouch, I think the only thing you could do is take apart the door to get to the otherside of the screw then maybe be able to turn it with some pliers and get it out.

did the easy out brake in the bolt? if it did you are done and would need another way. If you can get it to bite, maybe apply some heat to the extracter while it is in there. I am not sure if red lock tight was used but if so heat is the only way.

Have you tried cobalt bits? I use this set to drill through anything and it cuts through like butter with my 20V DeWalt:

And yes, I've used it numerous times to drill through steel. Titanium coated bits you normally find aren't at all up to snuff for going through metal.

I had the same thing happen in Chugwater WY. 80mph winds. I never replaced the top bolt. I just ran with the single bolt for years, never noticed a difference.

PO of my Jeep had ridiculously long straps that opened the doors probably 120 degrees. All that stress eventually caused the bottom bolt of mine to pop off completely. Maybe having the bottom one is what makes a difference, because my strap would slip off occasionally when I opened the door without that bottom bolt. Eventually had to get a somewhat oversized bolt in order to keep it on.

This is off topic, but I have some good memories while stuck in Chugwater. Was trying to get into Cheyenne on a Friday evening but they closed I-25 because of flipped over trucks. I sat around in a sketchy gas station restaurant eating a soggy chicken fried steak waiting for the road to open. I can see how those winds would rip your door off...

At $18, you may as well have made your own. That looks like a king cobra stitch, which isn't that hard, but if you think it is, you can do the cover stitch, which is about half the work.
