Drive Shaft Cap Retaining Ring Groove

Doing the U-joints on my drive shaft, I chipped a piece off the slip yoke where the outer lip of the retaining ring groove is. Is this something that needs to be replaced even if the “open” part of the retaining ring is orientated in a way that keeps the retaining part of the ring full coverage in the groove? The area marked in red is where the groove lip chipped away. I would rather not put more money into this DS than needed buying a new slip yoke since its being replaced with a SYE and CV shaft later this year anyways.

I just did a sye and actually have two stock style slip yoke driveshafts in the garage you could have for shipping cost. If you give me a couple days I could even separate the yoke to make it cheaper.

I might be interested, however my problem is I need to figure something out within two weeks before I go up to Michigan.

Just my opinion, I'd run it. There's tension on that retaining ring, I don't think it will come apart. No use in messing with it since you'll be going to a SYE soon.

Probably just run it then. Unless you're doing some serious wheeling to where it tries to spin the cap and moves that circlip, its not going anywhere.

A trip to the dunes in Silver Lake and lots of highway driving. This particular LJ will be more for leisurely cruising around, my TJ that already has the SYE will be what we abuse.
