Droning sound going over 30

Ok I've looked through the forums and most of what I see deals with pinion angles ect. Anything dealing with a lift....

Stock. I get the droning sound above about like 30mph

I also have a useless rear view mirror over about 60/65mph

The rear u joints were replaced within the last 6 months. Tires were balanced prior to that

I know others have mentioned repeated need to balance tires on the TJ

Obviously the balance is the first/cheapest thing. Any other ideas?

The obvious would be to check the front shaft. Next would be suspension components. Worn control arm bushings can alter the angles. Good to have the shafts balance checked as well. Check trans/case mount, too.

Yeah, although it sounds like a broken record, the usual culprit is improperly balanced tires. Most tire shops just aren't good with balancing the large tires we run on our TJs.

But other than that, I think it always comes down to pinion angles and u-joints. Sometimes it's possible to have a bad unit bearing (though that's usually more of a whine) or a driveshaft that has gone out of balance (more uncommon).

Usually a droning "woom woom woom" is driveline based. Tires are more of a wobble or shaking, often felt in the steering wheel. You could swap tires front to rear and see if it changes.
 
Only on acceleration? Check the front driveshaft to see if it's contacting the edge of the transfer case skid plate at all.

Also, the rear pinion angle rises about 1-2 degrees on acceleration, so there is a chance your pinion angle is set a bit to high as it is, which is causing it to be too high when you accelerate, hence the vibration.

The rear pinion angle should be 1-2 degrees lower than the angle of the driveshaft.

At 226k, it's highly probable that most of your suspension and steering components are worn. It might be a good time to refresh all of those components in all honesty. Control arm bushings, tie rod ends, u-joints, etc.
 
Sure, 226k is a ton of miles on suspension. Under accel, if the control arm bushings are shot, the pinion could be moving up beyond where it should causing driveline vibrations.

I have a full set of Spicer ball joints and HD steering kit just waiting for the time to get it on. Those are checked off

I guess the control arm bushings need to get ordered too just for good measure

Oh yeah, those will help. Add some control arm bushings to the mix and you'll be covering good majority of it.
 
How difficult is it to get those bushings out and back in without a press? I have a bench vice but I'm not sure it will suffice.

I can get new arms for $195 but bushings are considerably cheaper especially with the stock arms are fine

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. When I replaced mine I just went with these:

That seemed easier to me, because all the control arms already have the bushings in them.

Could be. Those are all the factory replacements, same ones I used when I did mine. Much easier than trying to replace all the bushings individually IMHO.

Have you checked your pinion bearings, transfer case bearings, and have you replaced the ujoints in the driveshafts?
