So... I am starting to research cb radios. I understand the different sizes of a CB antenna but is the goal to have a long antenna for range, or a HIGH up antenna. Basically what I am wondering is will a 5 ft antenna mounted to the rear bumper get better reception than a 2" antenna mounted to the roof (assuming they are even). I want the long range of a 5" antenna but I go in parking garages a lot for work and school.

The bottom line is a 2-3' antenna mounted just above the rear taillight will perform extremely well. I first installed a 4' then 3' and ended up with a 2' 13-14 years ago. The 3' and 4' antennas kept banging into everything.

The signal from my well tuned Firestik FS-2 2' antenna consistently gets good signal reports from the rear of often large groups I sometimes lead.
