The Wizard has a video of an easy out for heater core replacement. Cut a hole in the firewall.....

I didn't know that frequent replacement of the heater core was a thing.

Hah, I just watched this. Are heater cores really impossible to find? I see them all over Amazon.

I have 2 that I'm willing to sell. One is new, one is used - leak free. They fit a 1998 TJ.

This guy must have more viewers than I gave him credit for.

Thread 'Heater core modification for access'

It's not a regular thing. It happens but I've never needed one in either of my TJs in 25 years and over 320k miles driven in them.
I can't see this as being a use/wear issue as fluid flows just as much through the heater core no matter how much you actually use the heater right? Maybe colder temps inside the cab regularly makes the plastic welds brittle?

and my wife bitching the whole time. ;)
Mine doesn't really do this, ^^^^^^^^^

but she does frequently do this, which definitely slows me down!

Not that big of a job (half a day)??? I could do a trans swap in less time without a jack and my wife bitching the whole time. ;)

Maybe i have some sort of traumatic-denial memory loss from the heater core replacement.

It was daunting and scary at first... but i had to do it 3 times in 1 project.... by the 3rd time... it was a cake walk.

For anyone else watching the vid. Fast forward to 8 minutes. I just lost 8 minutes of my life that I can't get back.
That guy is painful to watch. His mannerisms were driving me nuts.

And on the subject, it reminds me of that thread on the fuel pump access door.

One thing I learned fairly early in life is to spend money to buy the best heater core you can find when replacing them. I've had to do them on 3 vehicles over the years and had one leak a month after replacement.
