Educate me on GMRS radios

Correction —- The Midland Micromobile radios WILL NOT work on FRS channels 8-14 due to power restrictions, but will work on channels FRS 1-7.

This may help.

Channels 1-14 are FRS/GMRS shared channels. Channels 15-22 are GMRS only.

The Midland Micromobile radios cannot use FRS channels 8-14 but can use FRS channels 1-7 and GMRS channels 15-22.

Did not realize the Tech license is cheaper - Is there a test involved and if so what is best way to prep?

Yes there is a test involved. IF you have common sense, safety oriented and some working knowledge of electricity you should be able to pass with a short review of the testing pool.
You can search on QRZ.COM for Technician testing information and study books.
Most testing sites are at the local Fire Department, VFW and other locations.

Not that I condone the use of the Chinese Ham radios; the Baofeng UV-5R can transmit on the ham radio UHF/VHF, FRS and GMRS.

The GMRS license is a family license. Is that the same for any Ham licenses?
