Engine swap now won’t start

So yes it was 180 our redid it to make sure. Still won’t start. I tried starting fluid with the fuel pump relay pulled just to eliminate the fuel side nothing changed. I pulled the number 1 spark plug and had my kids crank it and there is spark weather or not it’s enough or at the right time I am not sure. I am about ready to cut my losses and get rid of it.

So there are 3 wires on the cam position sensor off the distributor

- orange
- tan/yellow
- Black/tan

When you turn the key on no running lights and no start

But when you rub the orange on a ground (while hooked up) the running lights turn on and the asb relay clicks still won’t start but progress.... I hope

Any help would be awesome

Someone on here has links to FSM of your year and that will have a wiring diagram.

I know on my 98 4.0 the CPS on the bellhousing and flywheel controlled fueling not spark. The cam position sensor took care of the spark.

You may want a new coil, cam pos sensor and check the wiring that your buddy horsed with. Also check the crank pos sensor on the bell housing and make sure it is working and plugged in.

Crank and cam sensors are both new now wiring looks good. I am confused why grounding that one wire would allow the asb relay and day Time runners to turn on
