Question for all you gurus out there. I have 2 TJs. One is an 01 and the other is a 98. The 01 is a rust bucket but complete so I’m swapping everything over to the 98. The issue I’m running in to is the motor mount situation. Other then the blocks being different and how the engine mounts mount to the block, does anyone know the actual differences that make it not able to just bolt in an 01 engine into a 98 chassis? Looking for ideas how to make this work. Don’t mind fabbing custom engine mounts if I have to.

Thanks but not looking for block interchangeability. I can’t seem to figure out why 1 4.0 will fit and the other will not. It’s the same engine and chassis.

There is a fairly detailed thread here discussing the early 97/98 differences to the later and there are quite a few to be aware of but I'll be dammed if I can find it.

It should help with the transformation your working on.

Hopefully some one else can locate it.

I think what you are asking is this..are the frame side mounts the same for 98 and 01?

If so there is no reason they would be placed differently that I can recall.

Are you experiencing a difference?

I agree. However I’m almost 2 inches shy of aligning the driver side bolt. I don’t see why it wouldn’t mount between the rails
