Excessive exhaust heat

I purchased and installed a Banks Monster Power Exhaust. The sound is ok, but I am concerned about the amount of heat coming out of the tip. It’s so hot, that it makes my rear bumper too hot to touch after a few minutes. I called Banks but they said they had not heard of this before and said they would call me back…. Never happened. Anyone else ever had this happen? It this normal?

I just installed this exact setup. Mine has about 4” from the welded on hanger to the end where the tip attaches. Yours appears a bit shorter. My tips sits in about the same spot. I haven’t noticed excess heat. Good luck!

hmmm. i run the same muffler and now you got me thinkin, because all of a sudden i had an excessive heat under the hood situation that i do not think existed B4 the exhaust was changed. and my tail pipe was hot enough to wrinkle my shock cover.

did you possibly purchase a TJ banks kit and not a LJ kit?

It's so short that I'd expect it to heat everything up back there. Which is one reason I always recommend against buying online exhaust systems. You never know what you're going to get and when there's a problem you have no recourse other than to return it or pay a local muffler shop to fix it.

I always recommend having exhausts installed by a local independent/non-chain muffler shop. They're often less expensive and easy to have problems resolved.

It's collecting under the Jeep's rear-end because the exhaust and its heat is not being ducted out from close enough to the very rear of the Jeep as the factory design did.

You could just install a different tip with a factory style turn down and a bit more length. It might quiet it down a bit but it might also help with the heat. At least it's a simple solution you could do yourself. The muffler isn't causing some problem in my opinion.

mine sits in the same spot and my triangulated uppers moved forward on the frame don't afford it to come back much more.
just routing my tailpipe has gone from a wkend job to a winter project to fix it all.

i run the lazy way right now, and it's turned down and out as far as i can let it.

I may end up doing this. Quadratec is sending me a replacement unit just in case it is a defective part. If it continues to be an issue, I will take your sound recommendation and go local.
