Fan shroud replacement

Does anyone know if the fan shroud can be removed/replaced with removing the radiator? The old one is split on top and I am having trouble getting things readjusted after a MML without a BL. I ordered a new one, but don't see a way to do this without pulling the radiator.

Just pull the fan and clutch assembly off the water pump. Pull the old shroud and fan/clutch out at the same time, reinstall new shroud and fan/clutch at the same time. Reinstall fan/clutch to water pump, install shroud mounting screws.

Are you asking if the fan shroud can be removed without removing the radiator? You have to remove the fan and fan clutch assembly to get it out.

Make sure to put it back when you're done though, as that fan shroud is necessary for cooling the engine. I'm sure that goes without saying though.

Yeah, you have to remove either the radiator or the fan. I wouldn't worry about a crack at the top though, just patch it with something. If the rest of the shroud is good there's no real reason to go through the trouble .

X2. Scuff up the plastic with sandpaper and use JB Weld with a nylon mesh. You can use the nylon mesh that comes in cheap rolls. Lowes carries Frost King Gutter Guard plastic mesh that will fit the bill. Apply the JB Weld on top of the shroud and spread around with cheap putty knife. Cut plastic mesh to fit over JB and push down into the JB which will force the JB to ooze through the holes in the mesh. Slather more JB Weld over the mesh and press down with putty knife. I've used this method several times for similar repairs.

This drywall mesh works well with JB Weld too. It's very thin aluminum and very easy to shape. I used it with JB Weld Plastic Bonder on the inside of one of my half-door panels to reinforce a crack.

Thanks for the replies. I figured I was overlooking the obvious. I got the fan and shroud out.

Past JB Weld failed after a few months, although I did not use a mesh. Once I got it out I decided to drill and stitch it with zip ties, which seems to be holding it solidly.
