Hard to believe Billy Mays had been dead for more than a decade. He was all over tv infomercials.
No amount of fancy tools would make up for experience on a dent of that complexity. Using the weld on rods may get you 75% there, but without a pretty extensive history doing body work you can't make it 100% dispute what Billy May's may say. Talk to your brother, find out if it is better for you to try to get the worst of it, or is it better for him to do it all. Offer to buy some of the tools needed. That way it's a win-win for both of you.
So one of my latches broke off and I forgot to check the other after an early morning wash & cleaning out. As I'm merge on to the expressway I see the hood shake a little and before I could pull over my hood was blown up blocking the windshield, denting the hood severely, oh and the windshield was cracked. I was a little upset but relieved nothing worse happened nor did I hurt anyone. should I just buy a new hood or try the dent removal machine, or try a body shop?
looks not so much dented as bented?... if it were me I'd be looking for a new hood at a jeep salvage yard. probably find one in decent shape in the right color that's been rear ended or something.
by the way this is Wrangler TJ forum. The TJ, ran from 97 to 06. You have a JK. 07 to idk 17 ish? You might find better model specific info on a JK forum.

Absolutely get another hood. The time it would take to get that one even close to right isn’t worth it. Hoods sell around here for $100-$150 all the time…
I've got that dent on the opposite side, perhaps slightly more indented. I had paintless dent repair out - couldn't fix it. He could get it to pop out, but because of the crease it just kept inverting when we stopped pushing from behind. Worth a shot to see if yours is better, but don't hold your breathe.
I've decided it adds character. When I decide I don't feel that way anymore I will cut the crease to relieve pressure on the metal, push it from behind, and finish the rest with bondo. I doubt that is coming any time soon...

No professional body shop will touch that hood..even if they could get it straight the amount of filler needed would kill the deal not to mention using bondo on a hood is sometimes sketchy
Agreed...that dent is going to be a bastard to fix even for a pro if you want it to look decent..lots going on there. You could try to repair it yourself but don't be surprised if you end up with a stretched oil canning mess when you are done.
