Well I knew when I bought this Jeep back in December that sooner or later i would have to drop the skid plate and asses the frame so I waited until the Indiana weather improved. The frame on the drivers side was actually decent but the passenger side was shot. So i just finished the project of replacing the bottom section of frame. Off to the local Fab Shop and picked up some 3/16" flat bar and built a new frame section. I was lucky in that the side wall of the frame was solid so i didn't have to cut a ton out. Welded in place and solid. So my next goal was to correct the corrosion issues that I new that I had when I bought her. A buddy of mine who has been fabricating for many years turned me on to a product that is a chemical rust converter. It is made by a company called Chemsearch, the product is called Conquest. He gave me a 32 oz bottle to try, I have never seen anything like it. I took a needle gun, [ all of the old Sailors know what it is ], cleaned the frame of all loose rust. They specifically say not to go to bare metal. Applied two coats. It comes out of the bottle a cream color, turns a light blue as you roll or brush it on, dries to a black hard surface.From what I read online, it neutralizes cells in the rust. I top coated it with Rust Barrier by Dupli- Color. Phase two will be to apply Fluid Film inside the frame and the entire under body. My hope is to extend the life as much as possible. Time will tell. The top is off, doors off and the Bimini Top Plus should arrive tomorrow No intentions of putting the doors or soft top back on until fall.
