So I've got a small hole in my rear driver side frame and I'm looking into getting it repaired and as I've been recently informed I should do, drill drain holes in the frame. Basically, I have all the resources and skills (either myself or friends) to do the frame repair myself with steel we have on hand. Is this a bad idea? Should I have it done by a shop instead? And what's the general consensus on drain hole location and size? Thanks in advance y'all!

With that much undercoating on your frame I would check the rest of it. It is likely hiding more rot. Hit it with a ball peen hammer along its entire length both sides.
I did some pounding before and I was suspicious as well but I wasn't finding any other bad spots. Before me, this jeep was only used in the summer in sand. So it's in relatively good shape
I'd get an inspection camera and carefully inspect the length of the frame on both sides. With any rust through, you're bound to have more spots getting ready to do the same. I'd also drop the skid plate to check how the fasteners hold up. My bet would be that more than a couple will spin on you indicating frame rust on those sections as well.

How did you get a picture of my frame before Safety caps?
I'll look into the camera idea but the skid has been dropped before with no issues so far. And yeah I know rust is always hell but here in indiana it's just the constant. Dang salted roads
I was born and raised there and lived there until 2010, so I know how bad it is unfortunately. Fingers crossed!
