I'm stuck on an issue my 2003 TJ 4.0 is having. I've searched this forum for the past two weeks and am running out of ideas. When I took it out of storage and started it up this past spring, my fuel gauge light was on and the gauge showed empty. I filled it up with gas assuming that it maybe there was a leak or someone siphoned the gas out. Never know nowadays. Anyway, after filling it with needing only 3 gallons of gas, it still showed it being empty. I took it to the mechanic I have had for years and he dropped the tank assuming it was the sending unit as the jeep ran great. He tried a new pump and nothing. He traced the wires and they all showed continuity to the PCM. He also tested the gauge by pushing the odometer button along with starting it up and the gauge reacted correctly. So he basically told me he's lost so I'm going to get it back this weekend. Looking for any advice on what else I myself can check once I get it back. The pump and sending unit were installed a year ago so he ordered a new one assuming maybe the one he put in a year ago went bad and same result. Any advice or suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I figured I would end up doing that but was hoping there would be a simpler fix or remedy. Oh well, I guess I'll drop the tank again. LOL
Not talking about dropping the tank. I'm saying unplug the fuel pump...and pull down the wiring harness from there to the transfer case and remove the tape and plastic loom.
