I have a 1998 TJ and I’m trying to figure out the fuel tank size. My manual says 15 gal is standard but the 19 gal was an option. My gas gauge isn’t working so I will be replacing the fuel pump assembly and need to know which one to get.

Sorry about bringing up an old forum, but my build sheet shows 15.3 gallon tank, and then further down the sheet it says " 5 additional gallons of gas".
So, does that mean larger capacity, or does it mean something else?

I know it's an old thread, but I just changed out my fuel pump (and cleaned my tank), so my tank was bone dry. I put 5 gallons in it, drove it 3 miles to town and put 15 more in it. I suspect the lines probably held about 1/2 gallon, since they had been drained too. My fuel gauge read 1/4 full until I got it started, then it read 1/8 and the light came on.

I know this is an old thread. But the one time I ran the tank dry, I put in over 20 gallons into my 19 gallon tank.

Was there a question in there?
