Gaia GPS or OnX offroad

Have had both. Onx interface is easier for first time. But giaa is way more powerful. Takes more time to use. It does everything onx offroad and hunt does, and way more. Planning a trip is much easier, as you can trace way larger parts of map easier and quicker. You also can also have multiple layers running at once which is helpful. If you are willing to take the time to learn it, giaa is a no brainer compared to onx

Ok, that's about what I was after. The main question was whether or not it was worth a bother to check out OnX when I'm already used to using GAIA. Maybe I'll try the paid version of GAIA to better enjoy using it. Anyone voting for OnX over GAIA, please chime in with your experience, I'm just curious.

One more for Gaia. I'm not the best at navigation. Gaia has helped many times. Haven't messed with Onx much though.

I've been using Gaia for several years. When it has the maps of your area, it is very useful. I'm finding that Avenza maps are a good complement. It has free MVUM maps that can locate where you are on them.

None of the above.

I use Avenza. So does the USFS, our local search and rescue and all my volunteer groups.

It's free to use the basic functions...USFS has a map finding app if you want to buy maps... it's easy enough to email maps because it's basically geotagged PDFs.

When I'm out scouting (hiking) trails I can record a track, take pictures and notes on place marks to report downed trees or root balls.

I primarily use Alltrails, with GAIA as backup to that.

I don't think I'd necessarily go with a tablet... Alltrails, Gaia, and OnX offroad all work on carplay, I have a carplay enabled head unit in my Gladiator, and will do the same in the TJ fairly soon, mostly because its one less thing to have bouncing around the Jeep to look for...

I interviewed with OnX a couple weeks of go but got bounced in the 4th round.

Screw them, use Gaia. 🤣

(The job was listed as an architect but they wanted an IC, no thanks. Took 3 interviews to flush that out).
