Gear pattern assessment

This is a great thread, thank you @Irun! I am getting ready to install an Eaton elocker in a Danna 44. Are you now putting your carrier shims inside or outside the bearings? From watching BFH Garage videos I thought all shims went outside the bearings. That is where mine are on my stock locker.

According to Eaton shims go outside of the bearings. Since discovering my bearings not seated issue, I've made the switch outboard.

Another round of surgery and I'm back at it.

Backlash = .011
RGS = .057
NRGS = .043
Pinion shim behind inner bearing = .056
Stock oil baffle is between inner race and housing

Does anyone know if I need to shave the RGS bearing cap any for an Eatone-locker? These tabs seem to bind every so slightly. I absolutely don't want to try and bend them!

Eatons install manual says you can bend or grind the tabs as necessary. That ring needs to be finger push loose. That is for a Danna 44 LP axle anyway.
They also say you can clearance the dif case.
