Some good news my TJ friends!
Just got my official offer for the permanent Natural Resource Specialist position here in Douglas, WY. I have accepted it. Report date of December 7th, 2020. It's almost exactly 6 months to the day from when I started this position (June 8th, 2020).
I will now transition from my temporary Compliance Inspector position to a permanent Natural Resource Specialist administering fluid mineral operations on the Thunder Basin National Grassland.
This will entail me doing a lot of permitting operations for oil/gas companies drilling and maintaining operations on Forest Service lands. This means processing applications to drill (APDs), processing Sundry notices (requests to change things on their drill sites, etc), and other assigned duties.
It's a happy day for me as this is my first "big boy" job since I've gotten my degree and am (mostly) working in my field. It's a 1301 series, Physical Scientist, rather than the 1311, Physical Science Tech, position I'm currently in.
With my current 6mos of work in this position, I may be able to get a promotion to the GS7 level in another 6mos when I've had one-year of Time in Grade working with the Forest Service.
For so long, I've tried to move my life forward, but always seemed to hit a road block or something that sets me back and I have to start over.
Now, I have a career! I've never had that before, and it feels great.
But if I'm honest, I may only be here for a few years before moving back to Ohio or somewhere else. This place seems to be somewhere you settle your family, but not a place to start one (I don't want kids, and the dating scene here is absolutely non-existant [for non-single moms anyway]).
We'll see.
I am planning to come back in late January to visit with family as it's between Christmas and my birthday. It's also during my brother's birthday.
