Hardtop options

Hey all, I'm new to the site -BUT, just being here searching different post and looking at all the jet builds make me get all nuts about jeeps. Its in the blood!

Just about to finish a build with my daughter - '98 TJ - everything new except the bullet proof 4.0 and so, Im looking for a HARD TOP -

I'd like the best quality, (quite ride - insulated good - FIT and I want it to last, both structurally and cosmetically) I would like a 'sun roof' so I've been looking at RALLY TOPS and BULL DAWG MFG.

- Im kinda digging the 'discovery' window option that BULL DAWG MFG offers, however, I'm concerned if it affects the top structurally. -

Please know my daughters TJ has FULL DOORS.

ANYone have any pros's or cons? Or any another options for a hardtop?

For looks , fit , noise and less chance of leaks , get a factory hard top . They can be found on Craigslist for 600-1200.00 dollars , and insulation /sound deadening can be added.

Gilbert Jeeps in Athens , Alabama has nice ones in stock .

Multi piece tops are noisy in my opinion , and just aren't the same as the factory . A Bestop is nice , but it's 2800.00

A sunroof is a liability , plus if it's that nice , it is soft top weather.

Also , is your TJ wired for one - consider that and research it .

My LJ came with a 1 piece RallyTop hard top. It has a carpet lining in it that is nice. I did have a few leaks around the rear window and top front corner of the passenger side door. A little bit of time and RTV / silicone and foam tape.

The passengers for was a lot harder. I never really got it fixed before taking it off for my soft top.

I don’t think whoever installed it did a very good job. I found when removing it that the plastic trim on the passengers side, where the door surrounds on a soft top slide into, where bent and knocked out of place. I’m thinking that didn’t let it seal good somewhere. The trim was so mangled that I had to replace it.

The sliding windows a kinda nice but also rattled a little bit.

If I ever put it back on I’m gonna try to do a better job of installing it than the previous installer.
