I am thinking putting a splitter to the oil pressure sensor so to put an additional aftermarket sensor connected with a sound alarm, so when the pressure goes low the alarm sounds. what do you think about this mod?
97 has this as well. Not sure about your year model, but my 06 has a check gauges light and alarm from the factory.
The ‘04 has that feature as well. Not sure about your year model, but my 06 has a check gauges light and alarm from the factory.
It should chime with low pressure, mine did when the oil pressure sender went bad.Mine chimes at me when it cold out and it doesnt read but it doesnt make a sound of no oil pressure.
FYI-That's not normal.Mine chimes at me when it cold out and it doesnt read but it doesnt make a sound of no oil pressre. I am going to replace the oem sensor and probably going to install a actual pressure gauge so I can monitor it.
I know but it happens only when cold, once it chimes at me then I listen for a knock or some sort of noise but sounds normal. I can shut it off and restart and it works again. That is why I want to add a real gauge.FYI-That's not normal.
It might be annoying having the alarm go off every time you turn the ignition on. There isn't a really easy to get power only when the engine is rotating. That's what I'd be looking for if I was going to do this type of thing. I'm sure it can be done. I have an alarm on my transmission temperature but the advantage is that when the Jeep is off (not running) normally the temp is cold unlike the pressure thing.what do you think about this mod?
This is worthy of it's own how-to.I have an alarm on my transmission temperature
I should put something together, I used a PID controller as a gauge and instead of controlling a motor or compressor I just sound a buzzer. The PID temp is the alarm temp. The factory seems to use a 1/32 DIN slot for the cigarette lighter plugs behind in the plastic so it fits okay with a little trim work. This is worthy of it's own how-to.
That’s pretty cool, Paul. I’d love to see how you did that as well. At what temp do you trigger the buzzer?I should put something together, I used a PID controller as a gauge and instead of controlling a motor or compressor I just sound a buzzer. 225, I think first stage overheat is 240 so that gives me some overhead. I've been in overheat many times before I added a cooler but now 215 is really the highest I ever see so that's why I set it there. At what temp do you trigger the buzzer?

I would consider a bright light mounted up high in your line of sight. You could tee off the oil pressure sensor and add a switch. Mount the light on top of the dash.I just finished a full rebuilt of the 2.5 engine. I changed the oil pump with a new one and it failed just after 380 miles. I was lucky enough to see the moment the pressure went to zero, heard the change of the sound of the engine and shut it down on time! I have putted my old one that worked perfectly for 22 years… I decided to keep it and put a custom sound alarm for zero oil pressure, I don’t trust the quality of new production mopar parts
