So we started off today moving things around in the garage trying to straighten things up some. Then we were going to take the hard top off my daughters TJ and install the Supertop that use to be installed on my TJ. Easy as pie right??? Nope because the pervious owner had used some wingnuts and bolts to hold down the hard top.

But of the 3 wingnuts I could only get 1 off and the other 2 were sized and even with pliers I could barley turn them. And then the bolts started spinning and I couldn't get a wrench or socket on under the rail. Hit them with breakfree which helped but still couldn't get them loose. Finally had to break out the Sawzall and cut them off instead.

So looks like we will wait until next weekend to install the soft top. Tomorrow her best friend is coming into town so she already has plans.

That sucks. Looks like you may have to clean up some rust that is forming under the top.

PO on my Jeep installed a 4 flat trailer plug...
And left it to drag on the ground.

It was still dragging when I checked out the Jeep at the dealership. Caused major headaches when swapping to LED brake lights and turn signals. The whole thing was shorted out. Soldered in a new one and everything works for now.

Make sure they didn’t bodge the hardtop wiring or windshield washer fluid line too. Mine was never wired for one so I had to jury rig a wiring kit.

Nope this was actually a dual top ordered TJ. Of course by the time I bought it the soft top was missing. I don't run a soft top any longer so she is getting it for the summer and have the hard top for the winter. The wiring is there and the rear wiper works but the washer doesn't. Now that it is warmer out I can try to figure out what the issue is.

The way the washer works is odd, but makes a lot of sense. Power is run to the washer switch, to the hardtop to a splice, and then from the hardtop back into the body and to the 2nd washer pump. The washer pump tube runs back to the hardtop, where there is a quick disconnect and check valve.

The reason they don’t wire straight to the pump from the switch is so that nobody can turn on the washer with the top off and give the backseat riders a blue shower.

By the way if the check valve is bad, the JK check valves work on at least the 03-06 tops.

Kewl thanks for the info. When I disconnected the hose there was washer fluid in it but it isn't coming out the rear nozzle. Last time I owned a hard top Jeep was a YJ and it was a 1991.

I replaced everything the PO did to mine other than the long arm. And that may end up getting replaced.

But if I ever sell it the next guy will probably say the same thing about me.

Dude I just got my wife a nice used Lexus GX460.. Thing is a beast and is probably just as capable off-road as the TJ save for the plastic body cladding. Anyway I took it in for an alignment after changing tires because they had an uneven wear pattern, only to find out that at some point the truck had an attempted alignment where they tried to do an adjustment without lifting the truck... The adjustment tabs that butt up against the eccentric bolts for camber/caster are all rolled over or broken, so now I have to find an experienced fabricator to weld on some offroad adjustment tabs. Why would you shortcut it on a vehicle that's like $50k new???

Well we went out after eating lunch and got the soft top installed. I didn't think we could get it done but we did. I am out of shape BAD. I've been pretty sedentary for the past 3-4 years due to health issues and I hadn't realized just how much strength I have lost. Just putting the soft top on her Jeep has me worn out.
