2002 wrangler sport automatic. First time owning a wrangler, haven't had it long. Was underneath this morning changing the CPS when I noticed this spot leaking. Seems to be coming from the area on top in the second picture. Reddish brown fluid, doesn't feel like oil.

ATF leak, and by that 2nd picture, I would place a solid bet on the selector shaft seal. It's not a super hard repair, but it is easier if you drop your valve body (which isn't nearly as hard as it sounds, I promise). It also gives you the chance to replace your pan with the deep version with a drain plug. My personal rule is I never re-install the OEM transmission pan.

But that's just my educated guess. The sure-fire strategy is to clean it all up, and then stuff paper towels in & around anything that could leak and wait to see what turns red/brown. Nothing says it can't be multiple leaks.

Thank you, that sounds like an excellent place to start. The seals are less than 10 bucks so im gonna go ahead and throw one on. My car knowledge is pretty basic right now so can i ask, what benefit does the deeper pan have?

The deeper pan helps not starve the trans at steeper angles, and gives you more cooling capacity, but on the street it doesn’t do much. Biggest advantage is the drain plug.
